For more than three decades Mike Power and his staff at Sgt. Peppers restaurant in Lowestoft have worked many a hard day's night.

And this year marks the 35th anniversary since the restaurant opened in 1982.

Mr Power, managing director at Sgt Peppers restaurant, said: 'We are surprised to reach this landmark especially in the current climate.

'Every year we are amazed at the number of people who continue to support us. As well as tourists we have visitors come from Beccles and Great Yarmouth which is very gratifying.'

Previously a pinewood furniture shop, Mr Power opened Sgt Peppers with his former partner, Marie Power, on August 19, 1982.

A hotelier by trade, he had worked in hotels and restaurants across the country, before moving to Lowestoft to establish Sgt Peppers.

This year's landmark milestone also coincides with the 50th anniversary of The Beatles' iconic Sgt Peppers album after which the restaurant is named.

And with musical instruments hanging from the ceiling and images of famous faces from the swinging sixties covering the restaurant's walls, it has become known for its unique charm and character which pay homage to the iconic era.

Mr Power explained: 'I had originally planned to go back into the hotel industry but this really gripped my attention.

'The first Beatles' record I remember was Hey Jude, while still at school, and have been hooked on The Beatles ever since.

'I grew up wishing I had grown up in the 60's and now I am reinventing it for myself now.'

He added: 'A massive thank you to all our loyal customers and amazing staff who have supported Sgt Peppers.

'Its wonderful to see children who initially visited the restaurant with their parents in the 80's and 90's now return with children of their own to sample the unique 60's experience.

'I fully expect the restaurant to carry on from strength to strength - especially as the current trend is for people dinning out seems to be more popular than ever.'
