There will be activities all day with a colourful parade weaving around Wells at 3pm.

Dozens of events have been held since Carnival Week kicked off on Friday with a beer festival on The Albatros.

A raft race, Elvis night, Bruno Mars tribute act and fete, children's games and Wells' first Historic Lifeboat Festival have been amongst the many highlights.

Former Alderman Peel High School student Amanda Hastings has been crowned Carnival Queen, with Jasmine Bray and Keeley Tipper her attendants.

Wells Carnival Committee chairman Patrick Weston said: 'We've had a fantastic start and we're hoping that will continue throughout the week up to Carnival Day.

'We're very pleased with how things have been going and the support we've had from visitors, residents and our sponsors.'

Wells hosts one of the most popular traditional town carnivals in East Anglia.

It has been running for more than 100 years.

Mr Weston said: 'The Wells Carnival continues to be popular because we keep it as a simple family event and most of the activities are free, which is pretty rare these days, thanks to our sponsors.

'We put on good quality entertainment and the community in Wells and the visitors really get involved.

'It simply wouldn't be what it is without them.

'We're very proud of the Wells Carnival and are expecting Carnival Day to be a big hit again on Saturday.

'We're hoping for good weather - and our motto this year is 'blue skies brings the smiles.''

Saturday's activities begin with a craft fair on Clubbs Lane at 10am and there will be Carnival Day entertainment on The Buttlands from 11.30am ahead of the 3pm parade.

After the parade there will be a junior town crier final, followed by Dolly Parton and Dire Straits tribute acts, all on The Buttlands.

Carnival Week concludes, on Sunday, with Songs of Praise at the methodist church, a tea party on The Buttlands, rum and reggae party at The Lifeboat Inn and the 57th annual Lifeboat Service on the Quayside, at 6pm.
