Southwold's RNLI Lifeboat and coastguard rescue officers from Lowestoft and Southwold were called out after the kitesurfer's sail was found drifting in the sea off Southwold beach.

With the lifeboat crew and four coastguard rescue officers from the Lowestoft and Southwold Coastguard Rescue teams called out about 4.55pm yesterday (Friday), the discovery of the sail led to a missing person search covering Easton Bavents to Dunwich.

A lifeboat spokesman said: 'After an hour the missing surfer arrived in his van safe and well.'

A spokesman for HM Coastguard added: 'After searching Southwold and Walbeswick the male kitesurfer, who had managed to get himself ashore, made himself known to lifeboat and coastguard teams.'
