Evie the smooth-haired dachshund has been competing since she was a puppy. Owner Dawn Seago, of Cobholm, Yarmouth, has been to the champion show five times but she 'went to pieces' when her much-loved 'sausage dog' took the title over the weekend.

'I was quite calm until I got best in breed,' said Mrs Seago, 51.

'Everything was so overwhelming, I went to pieces.'

Mrs Seago, who owns six dachshunds with her partner Scott Gibbard, fell in love with the breed when she took in a miniature dachshund a few years ago and 'got a little addicted'.

She now shares her home - and sofa - with Evie, Frank, Diesel, Zonda, Lotus and Tesla.

Three-year-old Evie, whose full name is Ch Amlida Evora, was bred at home and comes from a long-line of pedigrees. She has won four best of breed titles and five Challenge Certificates and trains with Mrs Seago at the St Olaves Ring Craft and Lowestoft Ring Craft.

'She loves being in the ring,' said her proud owner.

'She is a bit of a show-off but she's such a well balanced dog.

'Dachshunds are little people; they are individual. They might be small but they are real hounds. On my walks, they'll often rush off to chase things.

'They are just wonderful dogs, full of character and courage.'
