A Norfolk mayor stood in for a county MP at the official opening of a new Specsavers shop.
The store, in the former HSBC building on Market Place in North Walsham, was opened by the town mayor Sallie Stuckey in the last civic engagement of her mayoral year.
Customers were treated to cupcakes from Buttercream Bakes, orange juice and even the odd glass of bucks fizz.
North Norfolk MP Norman Lamb, who suffered a stroke earlier this year, had earlier pulled out of opening the new shop.
He was due to cut the ribbon but a store spokesman said: “Unfortunately, due to recent well-publicised circumstances regarding his health, he will now no longer be able to attend the official opening. The store will now officially be opened by Sallie Stuckey, instead.”
Mr Lamb, 60, has admitted he needs to “work smarter” after the “life-changing” health scare, and scale down his commitments.
