One of Norwich's key visual arts venues is set to appear in the new series of the television programme Fake or Fortune?
Philip Mould, one of the presenters of the BBC arts show, visited the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts with a film crew on Friday.
Each Fake or Fortune? episode looks at whether a specific artwork is or is not the work of a major artist, and the reason for the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts visit was because one of the new episodes will focus on a work that may or may not be linked to the 20th century artist Alberto Giacometti.
Richard Smith, marketing and communications officer at the Sainsbury Centre, said: 'They came to the Sainsbury Centre because, firstly, we have a very large collection of Alberto Giacometti works, one of the largest collections of his works in fact, and secondly because they were also interested in a link with an artist called Isabel Rawsthorne.
'She was a well-regarded artist in her own right and also had a very good relationship with other artists. 'Francis Bacon painted her and we have a series of studies of her by him, and we also have a bust of Isabel Rawsthorne by Giacometti here too.
'That is what has made the Sainsbury Centre a nice backdrop for the episode.'
Mr Smith said the production company had kept the details of the work they were investigating - which is from a private collection and not part of the Sainsbury Centre's collection - under wraps.
'I don't know if it is a sculpture or a painting, potentially it is a work that could be a Giacometti, and if it is, that will be really exciting,' he said.
The first series of Fake or Fortune? was screened in 2011, and the next series will be the sixth and is due to be broadcast in summer 2017.
Episodes in the fifth series focussed on artists including Lucian Freud, Auguste Rodin, Paul Delaroche and Willem de Kooning, Philippe Mercier and Adolph von Menzel. The date when the Fake or Fortune? episode featuring Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts will be screened is still to be announced.
