Puppet pirates, computer designed images and aboriginal art were among the mini-masterpieces to greet visitors to the first Open Studio exhibition held at one Swaffham School.

Sacred Heart proudly displayed the efforts of students aged three to 16 from Friday May 25 to the following Monday as part of the Norfolk-wide scheme, delivered by the Norfolk and Norwich Festival.

One special piece was a reproduction of Picasso's Weeping Woman, created by students in years five to 11 who were each given an individual square of the painting to reproduce, but were not told the identity of the bigger picture until it was assembled and unveiled.

Other works included shape and colour robots, self portraits and felt making.

Art teacher Meg Heale said: 'I think they have got confidence out of it. There's a huge difference between how they approach not just their art but a lot of other creative things. Every child now believes that they can create something of value and standing, which I think is the most important thing.'
