Archdeacon of Lynn's Easter Monday run to raise cash for the air ambulance

Runners are being invited to the Royal estate at Sandringham to take part in the Archdeacon's Charge to raise money for charity.

The Ven John Ashe, Archdeacon of Lynn, is organising his third 'Charge' to raise money for the Air Ambulance and for parish churches.

This year the run, which can be from three to ten miles, will take place on part of the estate which is normally not open to the public.

The event will be held on Easter Monday, April 9 , and the route can also be walked rather than run.

'The Archdeacon's Charge has become a popular annual event, and it's extra special that we will be charging around the Sandringham estate in this jubilee year.

'Participants can choose their distance from three to 10 miles and they can walk as well as run, so you don't need to be a great athlete in order to take part. We raise money for two great causes, and I'd love to see as many as possible there to join in the fun on Easter Monday,' he said.

Mr Ashe decided to raise money for the air ambulance after his wife Shelagh was seriously injured when she was involved in a head-on collision on the A1067 near Lenwade in 2009.

The air ambulance quickly flew a doctor to the scene before airlifting her to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

Mrs Ashe's most serious injury was a tear in her aorta and she was later transferred to a cardiothoracic unit in Essex for an eight-hour operation.

She also suffered punctured lungs, a lacerated kidney, 11 broken bones, a head wound, a hematoma on both her knees, damage to her right elbow, lacerations and friction burns to her face and spent three weeks in hospital before being allowed home.

So far the run has raised 23,000 for both the air ambulance and parish churches.

Mr Ashe and his team of four raised 1,725 for the causes with last year's event at Sennowe Park, near Guist.
