An armed robber made off with cash from a robbery at a building society in Long Stratton this morning.

The robbery took place at the Halifax Building Society, which shares space in a building on The Street with Howard's Estate Agents.

The masked robber went into the estate agents at 10am and forced staff into the room occupied by the building society.

When he reached the counter he demanded money from the cashier who handed a quantity over.

He then left the building and ran off up The Street heading towards Norwich.

DS Gary Bloomfield from Norwich CID is appealing for witnesses. He said: “There was a queue of traffic outside the estate agents and building society at the time of the incident and I would ask anyone who was sitting in the traffic and anybody else who was in the area and saw a man running off up The Street or saw anyone acting suspiciously prior to the incident to contact me.”

The offender is described as a white man who is approximately 5ft 3ins tall. During the attack it was believed he wore a dark hooded top, blue jeans and he was probably carrying a bag as he ran off.

Witnesses have been asked to call DS Bloomfield on 0845 456 4567 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
