The stretch of the inner ring road which was closed this lunchtime following safety fears has now been re-opened.

The precautionary measure of closing the road was taken after strong winds caused problems with ongoing contractural work being carried out on the roof of St Mary's House in Duke Street, Norwich.

Part of the roof of the building became unstable just before Christmas and it has since been covered in tarpaulin.

However strong winds have caused the tarpaulin to blow away and caused some tiles to fly off the roof.

No sections of the roof became detached from the building.

Police traffic wardens closed the stretch of St Crispins Road between the roundabout with Barn Road and the roundabout with Barrack Street from about 11.30am until just before 2pm until contractors were able to complete further work to secure the roof.

Duke Street was also closed between the roundabout and the junction with St Mary's Plain.
