A volunteer lifeboat crew were called out to reports of a child being swept out to sea in a dinghy.

Lowestoft RNLI relief lifeboat RNLB Cosandra was launched just after 5pm to get to the child in Lowestoft.

Lifeboat coxswain John Fox said: 'We launched quickly and soon arrived at the scene of the incident, which was on the North Beach, three groyne bays or so north of Links Road.

'Just as we reached the location we could see an orange inflatable dinghy that had just got back onto the shore - with a child and adults nearby.

'They waved at us and we went close inshore to check that were ok.

'There was a force three southerly wind blowing and going out in an un-tethered inflatable boat in these conditions is not a good idea. Fortunately this incident had a happy ending.'

Lowestoft Coastguard Rescue Team were also called out.
