Anglian Water workers have rescued a man who was seen to jump into the River Wensum this morning.
Shortly after 11am nearby workers threw a life ring into the river, according to witnesses.
A man had been seen to jump into the water from Fye Bridge Street.
A Norfolk Police spokeswoman said: 'We were called to reports a man had gone into the water at Fye Bridge Street at about 11.10am. 'He is out now. He does not appear to have any injuries but the ambulance service were called as a precaution.'
A spokeswoman for Anglian Water said five members of Anglian Water staff had been in the area at the time.
They had been carrying out sewage maintenance on a pipe which was running nearby when a man intentionally entered the water.
The Anglian Water workers attempted to throw a life ring to the man on three occasions before he was able to cling on and was rescued from the water.
An East of England Ambulance spokeswoman said: 'The East of England Ambulance Service received an emergency 999 call to Bridge Street Norwich at approximately 11.10am on February 7, after reports of a male being pulled out of the water.
'An ambulance and an ambulance officer were sent. The patient was conveyed to the Norfolk and Norwich hospital for further treatment.'
