Firefighters from two counties were called out to search for a burning riverboat today.

They found the burned out vessel on the Little Ouse, two miles downstream of Little Ouse village, around the same distance east of Brandon Creek.

A spokesman said crews from Downham Market, Littleport and Thetford attended the incident, after the alarm was raised at 1.18pm.

They deployed a rescue boat to search for the stricken craft. A man on board the vessel had already escaped safely to the bank of the shallow river by the time it was located.

The man was not injured but the boat was destroyed in the blaze.
