Picturesque west Norfolk villages welcomed dozens of riders when King's Lynn Cycling Club held its annual road race.

The annual contest, which was revived in 2014 after a 42-year break, saw 49 competitors from across the country, cycle a 60-mile course through the villages of Grimston, Gayton and Great Massingham on Sunday.

Darren Cole, from RPD Racing, won the race.

Race director Annie Thompson said: 'We brought this race back three years ago because the club has grown so much in membership.

'We went from having 50 members to more than 200 and we now have a good team to organise events like this.

'The success of Team GB's cyclists in the Olympics certainly has something to do with that.'

She added: 'This has become a popular local event and we've involved local schools and councils.

'We've altered the route so that it goes through the villages so spectators can enjoy it and we've had lots of people coming forward offering to help.'

The race is accredited with the British Cycling Association and is classified as a category three/four event.
