An 'extensive search' was launched after police received reports a paraglider had crashed in Fakenham.

Police were called at around 7.15pm yesterday to the south of the town where a woman said she had seen a glider 'fall very quickly'.

Inspector James Makepeace, from Norfolk police, said: 'We got to her quite quickly and we also spoke to other witnesses who said the glider had recovered and flown off south.'

A search of the area was then launched, involving police, the dog unit, Norfolk Fire and Rescue, and the fire service's drone.

Insp Makepeace said: 'They searched four areas where it would be most likely have landed but we've not found anything and not had any more reports.'

He added he was satisfied the pilot had probably regained control and flown to safety. But he encouraged them to get in touch to ensure this was the case, or for any more witnesses to come forward.

He said: 'We're as satisfied as we can be there is not anyone in serious trouble.'

Police this morning said they had received no further reports.

Anyone with information on the pilot or their welfare should call police on 101 and quote CAD reference 567.
