Regiment “devastated” by death of Honington soldier
The death of a soldier who was found collapsed outside a house has devastated his regiment.
Lance Corporal Leslie Metcalfe, 23, of 1st Battalion The Royal Tank Regiment, died of a single stab wound to his heart.
He was found outside a property in Poplar Close, Honington, after police received reports of screaming at about 1.50am on March 16.
Despite efforts to save him, Lt- Cpl Metcalfe died at Papworth Hospital in Cambridgeshire the following day.
Lieutenant Colonel Gavin Thompson, commanding officer of the 1st Royal Tank Regiment, said: 'Lt-Cpl Metcalfe served his country with courage in both Iraq and Afghanistan.
'He was a dynamic and popular member of the regiment and his death is a devastating loss.
'Our thoughts at this tragic time are with his family.'

A spokeswoman for Suffolk police said Lt-Cpl Metcalfe's death was being treated as murder.
A 22-year-old woman from the Bury St Edmunds area was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after Lt-Cpl Metcalfe was found.
The woman has been re-bailed to return to Bury St Edmunds police station on April 7.
An inquest into Lt-Cpl Metcalfe's death has been opened and adjourned.
