Red Nose Day fever will descend on fund-raisers in the region tomorrow as businesses, community groups, and local people aim to raise buckets of cash for charity.

This year, Comic Relief has challenged people to help needy families in the UK and Africa by 'doing something funny for money'.

Across the county a host of fun-filled events are taking place tomorrow, including smoothie making with pedal bikes and a pony in fancy dress.

Schoolboy Alfred Riddell is turning his business of collecting seashells from Cromer beach and making them into different objects into a fundraising scheme.

The 10-year-old, who goes to Beeston Hall School, in West Runton, and lives in Cromer, has been using what he finds on the beach to make his own unique characters and then sell them on in The Garden House shop in Garden Street, Cromer.

But now he has decorated the shells with red noses, and is selling them for Red Nose Day. The sign in the shop reads, 'Don't be shellfish, pick one of these noses and make a donation to Red Nose Day'.

Hethersett High School pupils Josh Worley, 15, Tom Calder, 15, and James Skipper, 14, will be travelling between Wymondham and Norwich on pogo sticks to raise as much money as possible for Comic Relief.

What makes the challenge all the more taxing is that none of them had ever been on a pogo stick until a couple of weeks ago.

Fitness instructors at Dereham Leisure Centre are hosting a four-hour cardio challenge on Saturday in aid of Comic Relief.

The event will see around 30 people taking part in an exhausting marathon of classes from noon until 4pm including Step and Spin through to Combat, Zumba and Body Attack.

Each participant has already donated 5 to the charity, but the leisure centre hopes to get more donations throughout the day.

The Big Fry fish and chip shop in Dereham Market Place will also be serving up sausages with a difference tomorrow to raise money for Red Nose Day.

They will be fried in red batter – by using food colouring – and 30p from each one will go to the good cause. Owner Stephen Cross said: 'It does not change the taste and we thought it was a nice idea to help other people.'

A day of fancy-dress fun is planned in Fakenham tomorrow, where people will be dressing up as superheroes and popular film characters for a series of events. Bar staff Bill Vasey and Joseph Bane-Young, at the Henry IV Hungry Horse on Greenway Lane, are doing a 50 mile sponsored tandem bike ride dressed as Batman and Robin.

The pair are riding from the Greene King's head office in Bury St Edmunds to the pub in Fakenham, where a superhero karaoke night will take place from 9pm to midnight.

Elsewhere in Fakenham, Heidi Pointer and Mark Baldwin, both members of staff at TEG Fisher, will be dressing up as Sponge Bob Square Pants and Darth Vader to collect money in the town centre.

Staff at Prestige Lettings and Management in Swaffham will also be dressing up and raising money on Red Nose Day.

In Great Yarmouth, local MP Brandon Lewis will be making a special visit to the Sainsbury's supermarket at 4pm to support their Red Nose Day activities.

The staff will be following in the footsteps of the Sainsbury's supermarket in King's Lynn, which is planning to dress up in Red Nose Day themed fancy dress.

Youngster Henry Sandall from Bradwell, near Great Yarmouth, has already raised 150 for charity when he was sponsored to stay awake for 24 hours.

The 11-year-old needed to complete the challenge so medics testing for epilepsy could see if sleep deprivation was triggering fits.

But to raise money for Comic Relief, he decided to match Little Britain's David Walliams during his 24-hour panel show marathon streamed to audiences live via the internet last Saturday.

Great Yarmouth Cycling Club are visiting Peterhouse Primary School in Gorleston tomorrow for a special Red Nose Day event.

One of the spinning bikes will be linked up to a smoothie machine to provide a refreshing drink for fundraisers.

Members of the public can come along to the school, on Peterhouse Avenue, between 11am and noon and 3pm to 4pm to help raise cash.

Meanwhile, a young fundraiser from Southwold will take to the streets with his pony to show his support for Comic Relief.

Five-year-old Jack Wilmot will walk his beloved ponies BeeBee and Toto around Reydon, near Southwold, tomorrow afternoon.

The St Felix School pupil and his ponies, who will also be wearing fancy dress for the fundraiser, will be in Reydon between 4pm and 6pm.

Elsewhere, businesses in King's Lynn are doing their bit to raise money for Red Nose Day.

Milkshake sellers Shakeaway are giving people the chance to 'drink something funny for money' by offering funny-flavoured milkshakes for a donation, whilst hair dressers, Supercuts, are offering to dye hair with a flash of red for a donation from 11am till 1pm.

A cake and coffee sale will be on offer to anyone who wants to get fit and help Comic Relief at Rossi's Leisure in North Walsham tomorrow.
