A recycling event for unwanted electrical items will take place in Diss next week.

South Norfolk Council's 'Give and Take' event will be held at the Diss Youth Resource Base in Shelfhanger Road from 9am on Wednesday where residents can bring in their old televisions, toasters, hairdryers and other small electrical items. If the items are in working order, they will be safety tested by an on-site electrician and offered to residents for free from 11am.

Any items that cannot be reused will be taken by Social Enterprise Impact East to be restored and re-used, or recycled.

A similar joint South Norfolk Council and Broadland Council event in Costessey in August attracted over a thousand residents who brought 1,300 items.

Keith Kiddie, South Norfolk Councillor for Diss, said: 'Our give and take events have helped residents safely dispose of over 10 tonnes of unwanted electrical goods, which may otherwise have ended up in landfill. We have also found new homes for over 153 items, which is great for residents and great for the environment.'

'We are expecting another excellent turn out in Diss on Wednesday, and our officers will be on-hand to remind people about what can and can't be recycled.'
