It was an event to test the relationship of couples thinking about taking the next step or already planning their big day.

A 3km course with 12 wedding-themed challenges set in the beautiful grounds of Hockwold Hall, near Brandon.

But there was something big on offer for the wining couple - a £25,000 wedding package to help take away the stress of organising a wedding.

Organised by Hockwold Hall, to celebrate the Grade-II listed manor house as a wedding venue, 20 eager couples from across the country took part in Runaway Bride.

Dressed in mixed outfits of wedding and running gear, the bride set off first followed a few minutes later by the groom. He had to catch up with her so they could complete the tasks together.

The challenges included the in-law throw; the groom had to throw a spear into a hay bale representing either his mother or father-in-law, the bouquet toss and a 50m dash to the finish with the bride being carried.

Miranda Angelides, 33, and her partner Damien Adamson, 30, from Barnham in West Sussex, were the elated winners.

She said: 'We are so excited, it's incredible. This is absolutely amazing and I am quite speechless and that doesn't happen often.

'We had a deposit for a wedding in South Africa. But here is a lot closer than South Africa so we can have more people who can actually come.'

The pair, who compete in obstacle races, had been encouraged by friends to take part after seeing a post on Facebook.

She added: 'This is the first time we have done a race for an actual prize. This is the fastest we have ever run a race. It was really cleverly set out and it was really fun.'

Their wedding will be held at the hall in May 2018 and every detail needed to hold a wedding will be included by companies who are local to Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire.

Aaron Murrell, event director at Hockwold Hall, said Runaway Bride went 'really well'.

He said: 'Overall we are really pleased and we have had some great couples here today.

'It is a brand new wedding venue and we wanted to give something back to the area. We wanted people to come and have a look around, have fun and put their relationship to the test.'
