The raid happened yesterday between 6am and 6.40am at a home in Warren Road.
The male raider broke in by forcing a back window before disturbing the elderly resident by creeping into his bedroom.
The intruder threatened the victim with violence and continued ransacking the property.
A significant amount of cash was taken from a safe. Cigars were also taken from the lounge but later recovered close to the back door.
The suspect, described as 5ft 10in, was wearing dark clothing. Police would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or noticed suspicious people or vehicles in the area around the times stated.
The victims are offering a �1,000 reward which leads to the arrest and successful conviction of the person responsible.
