Bomb disposal experts were called to Mundesley this afternoon to deal with a phosphorous flare.
The American flare, which been washed up on the beach, was noticed by a concerned resident who called the emergency services.
An RAF ordnance disposal unit carried out a controlled explosion at 4pm, and by 5pm the hole had been filled in and the area declared safe.
