RAF Marham - Norfolk's biggest airbase - could still face the axe despite the government announcing that Tornadoes will continue to operate.

Prime minister David Cameron has announced that the Harrier jumpjet would be retired, meaning the Tornado force, which is based at RAF Marham in West Norfolk and RAF Lossiemouth in Scotland, would continue to operate.

However, the Tornadoes' scheduled retirement in 2025 will be brought forward to an unspecified date and either Marham or Lossiemouth will close.

No time scale has been set for a decision and whichever base does close would be used to house Army troops returning from bases in Germany.
