Six RAF Coltishall airmen killed in a coach crash in Germany 35 years ago have been remembered at an annual memorial service.
It was organised by the Spirit of Coltishall Association and attended by members, locals and relatives of the airmen that lost their lives. Representatives of 41 Sqn, based at RAF Coningsby, including their commanding officer Wing Commander James McMeeking also attended. The service, at Scottow Parish Cemetery on Monday, May 21, began after a flypast by a Typhoon aircraft of 41 (R) Squadron. The event was held around a memorial to the six, which is made from stone taken from the Black Forest where the crash happened.
The men died when the coach in which they were travelling crashed and overturned on May 21, 1983 while they were on an exercise with the Canadian air force. Five of them were members of 41 (F) Squadron's Reconnaissance Intelligence Centre.
