Children from a Thetford school have helped to raise money for a wildlife charity while attempting to break a Guinness World Record.

More than 200 pupils, aged between four and seven, from Raleigh Infant School and Nursery took part in the national event Walk 4 Wildlife.

The youngsters walked 1km around Admiral's playing field and raised £202.94 for the Thetford-based British Trust for Ornithology (BTO).

The school took part in the event to try and engage the pupils with and inspire an interest in wildlife.

Bonita Johnston, BTO Fundraiser, said: 'We're delighted that the children at Raleigh Infant School and Nursery chose to raise funds for the BTO with their Walk 4 Wildlife.

'It's really impressive that so many of the children took part in the walk. We'd like to thank each and every one of them - and their teaching staff - for their very generous donation and for helping us to look out for our birds.'

The youngsters hope the national event will break the world record for the biggest sponsored walk - the current world is 231,635 people.

Gillian Baker, teacher at the school, added: 'We have had fabulous visits to the BTO and were pleased to have the opportunity to support their projects.'
