Year 1-6 pupils spent polling day Thursday immersed in politics, discussing the major party's policies on issues such as education, health, the environment, taxes and immigration.

Year 5 pupils then donned masks to take on the roles of the party leaders for a debate, before a vote was held in a mock election.

The junior poll was also declared a 'hung parliament', with Labour leading by one vote, the Conservatives trailing followed by the Green Party and the Liberal Democrats in fourth place.

Libby Hopwood, teacher, said: 'Year 5 pupils presented simplified manifesto summaries and there was a very lively and intelligent question and answer exchange before votes were cast.

'It was hard for the children to answer the questions but they did so well - I am very proud of them.'
