A seaside tradition took a sinister twist today as Punch and Judy broke out of their booth and ran amok in Cromer.

Two larger-than life actors caused mayhem on the streets as they accosted shoppers as part of the Norfolk and Norwich Festival's 'That's the Way to do it' outdoor show.

The pair fed monkeys into a blender to make them into sausages, fed their crying baby gin and battered the same baby with a cosh.

There were three performances of the show today, including one at the tail-end of a hailstorm on Cromer Pier and others in the town.

This year, the festival has launched an NNF11-beside-the-seaside, with a clutch of events designed to extend its reach.

The Punch and Judy show featured the traditional striped booth and many of the usual props. But the main twist was that the puppets were played by actors, who made younger children hide their eyes as they took their catchphrases and taste for chaos onto the streets.

The show will be repeated on the pier on Sunday at 12 noon, 2pm and 4pm.
