'Please don't speed past our school' is the message to drivers spelled out in posters devised by children at Pulham Primary, Pulham Market, for a competition organised by local affordable housing company Lovell.

Lovell, which is building 13 affordable homes for Saffron Housing Trust on land next to the school in Harleston Road, held the contest as part of a series of safety-themed events for pupils.

Lovell health and safety manager Darryl Hammond said: 'We know speeding on the main road is an issue. It's clearly an important issue to the pupils and they'd thought hard about how to get the message across, coming up with some powerful words and pictures.'

John Whitelock, director of new business at Saffron Housing, said: 'It was a very hard job to choose the winners of this competition – they are clearly a very talented group of children.'

Headteacher Lesley Farrer said: 'The speed of the traffic going past the school is an ongoing concern, so this was a great opportunity for the children to send their message to motorists.'

The first prize winners, who won 10 book tokens, were Ollie Ransome, Charlie Cossey, Aimee Nunn, Lily Waters and Anna Thompson; second prize winners (5 book tokens) were Nicolas Navaro-Allen, Thomas Alexander, Emma Collier, Emily Rafter and Phoebe Pullen; third prize winners were Monty Gascoyne, Ellis Nunn, Theo Brand, Thomas Johnson and Charlotte Barber.
