People are being asked to share their views, opinions and ideas about a proposed £800,000 revamp of Hunstanton's seafront gardens.

West Norfolk Council is preparing a detailed bid for the Heritage Gardens project, after the first stage of an application for Lottery funding was approved earlier in the year.

The project will be centred on The Green and the adjoining network of public open spaces including The Esplanade Gardens and Cliff Parade.

The gardens comprise butterfly shelters, a band-stand and other heritage assets including the Victorian Pavilion, town cross, town sign, fountains and St Edmund's Chapel.

Paul Beal, the borough council's cabinet member for coast and tourism, said: 'This is a really exciting project for the town.

'I hope people will take part in the consultation, especially to share their stories at the first event and later to let us know what they think of our initial designs.'

Hunstanton mayor Andrew Murray said he was interested in seeing the new designs.

People can attend an introduction to the project at an open meeting from 5pm to 8pm on Thursday, October 15 at the Golden Lion Hotel.

The main consultation event will also be held at the Golden Lion, on Saturday, October 24, from 11am to 3pm and 5pm to 7pm. The stage-two bid needs to be submitted next March for a decision in June.
