Lifeboat volunteers are working tirelessly to raise money to upgrade their facilities.

Plans for a £350,000 upgrade to a lifeboat station in Hemsby have been submitted to Great Yarmouth Borough Council.

The Hemsby Lifeboat coxswain Dan Hurd said they hoped to start work as soon as they can raise enough funds.

He added: 'Everyone is working tirelessly to try and get the money any way we can.

'We need this extension to allow for more modern technology and to go with the times.'

Mr Hurd said they would be keen to hear from any business or corporate sponsors who would like to back the project.

The proposed development to the existing building is needed in order to accommodate their upgraded sea boat and launch vehicle.

The new layout allows the rescue boats to be set up for a quick launch, which required a new front and side extension.

This will also allow the lifeboat station to set up the broads/river boat and launch vehicle in a new side extension with the exit positioned in its launch direction.

The size and shape of the building is dictated by the new boat and launch vehicle and because of limited space on the ground floor, an upper level extension was required.

The plans state that the kit room needs to be located near to the boats, a new first aid room and disabled toilet. A control room and training/mess room for the crew would be located on the first floor.

Access is an important issues for the lifeboat station and maintaining clear areas for launches and also access off the car park to the beach for maintenance.

The lifeboat station is holding an open day on Sunday to raise all important funds for the project.

Kicking off at 10am there will be displays of lifeboats from Gorleston, Caister and Hemsby and also RNLI lifeguards during the day.

Music will go on all day with a resident DJ along with live bands and R'n'B singer Gabz from Britain's Got Talent.

There will be a mobile double decker bus bar serving drinks and a beer tent on the beach.

Tesco has donated 10 giant beach games to keep children amused and there will be other activities and attractions including zorb balling and trampolines and stalls.
