These youngsters are getting ready for a summer of sport after being given free PE kits by a west Norwich project.

The project called Hope NR5, run out of the Eternity Christian Centre on Earlham Green Lane, raised 500 for pupils in the area.

With the money they bought 90 kits, 60 bags and 24 plimsolls for children at Henderson Green and Larkman Primary School.

Lisa Marshall-Nichols a children's outreach worker at the Eternity Church, said: 'It is hard for parents to find the money each time for kits, especially if you have more than one child.

'We realise how families in the area are struggling with food on plates, let alone buying PE kits.

'We want to do it each year for different schools and help other children in the community.'

The church is a distribution centre for Norwich Foodbank and decided to take their fundraising a step further.

While fundraising they asked the schools what their pupils needed most and were told PE kits were in short supply.

The money was raised by children at two of the church's youth groups for nine to 16-year-olds through sleepovers and movie nights.

Members of the church congregation also chipped in to reach the fundraising target.

Mrs Marshall-Nichols added: 'We are so pleased that children from the area are putting back into the community with their fundraising and the community can see that the church is actively helping in their community.'
