Prince Harry has hailed the 'truly unbelievable' feat of his fellow South Pole expedition adventurers, including double amputee Sgt Duncan Slater from Scole and former Light Dragoon Guy Disney,
Members of the Walking With The Wounded Virgin Money South Pole Allied Challenge teams met this morning for a welcome home press conference in London following their successful expedition in December which saw three teams of wounded servicemen and women reach the South Pole after crossing 200km of Antarctic plateau.
Team Glenfiddich (UK), Team Soldier On (Commonwealth) and Team Noom Coach (US) were pushed to their physical and mental limits throughout a gruelling 13 days on the ice and terrible weather conditions which prompted Norfolk-based expedition director and founder of WWTW Ed Parker, to make changes and ultimately remove the race element of the trek to ensure all the three teams could join together and safely reach the South Pole, united as one.
Sgt Slater, who was told he may never walk again after losing both legs in a bomb blast, became the first double amputee to ski to the South Pole.
The now clean-shaven prince, who was flanked by Cpt Disney and Sgt Slater as he spoke amid a flurry of camera flashes, paid tribute to their 'unbelievable achievement' and called for potential employers to come forward to give his team-mates, whose army careers were brought to an end by their injuries, a job.
The prince said: 'If anybody out there has the ability or resources to give these guys and girls a stepping stone back into employment then please do. You certainly won't regret it.'
