David Cameron has hinted that money could be made available for the A47 in Prime Minister's Questions ahead of the Budget announcement.
Responding to a question from North West Norfolk MP Henry Bellingham about the spate of crashes on the county's roads, Mr Cameron said that funding had already been made available for the dualling of the A11, before adding: 'There may be more to come.'
The A47 and Norfolk's road safety in general has come under renewed focus in the past week after four crashes claimed seven lives.
Campaigners have been lobbying government for funding to be made available for an upgrade to the road.
Following Mr Cameron's response, Mid Norfolk MP George Freeman tweeted: 'Encouraging response from PM to Q about the need for funding to tackle urgent need for A47 upgrade. Treasury and DfT Ministers listening..'
