The disruption began on High Street at around 9.30am on Tuesday (September 25) leaving businesses and homes with little or no electricity.

The traffic lights by the police station were also affected as they were switched off by the outage.

A spokesperson from UK Power Networks said: “At 9.34am today power was interrupted to 29 customers in the High Street area of Lowestoft following third party damage to an underground electricity cable.”

Mark Flack, owner of A Piece of Cake, said: “Half of my business’ electricity has gone and it’s stopped us in our tracks really.

“We have had to come off Just Eat today and close our business early, if it comes back on this evening we will be okay but if it is any later than that I don’t know what we’re going to do about the freezer.”

Allannah Wilson, 18, a business administrator for a commercial letting agency, said: “All of our lights and computers have gone off now, we have been working from our phones all day.”

“All the RightMove stuff won’t be coming through, we’re on standby for people that need us.”

Elenor Robb, 53, who lives in a flat just off High Street said: “I can’t do anything, I have nothing, not even a phone.

“I just hope it all gets sorted soon otherwise it will be a cold evening without hot water.

“I’ve overheard that they might have to dig up the road, I hope I don’t end up having to sit by candle this evening.”

A barbers on Whapload Road has also been affected by the power outage.

Maxi Robinson, a manager of MrMr. Salon Supply store said: “We have been unable to carry out transactions for customers and had to manually write down transactions to put through when the electricity is back up and running.

“Our iPad has our till app on it and is short on battery we are unable to charge due to power cut.”

UK Power Networks continued: “Engineers were swiftly at the scene and restored power to five customers at 12.24pm.

“Work is progressing as quickly and as safely as possible to restore electricity supplies to the remaining 24 properties.”

Triio have been approached for comment.
