Hundreds of people in Dereham lost their electricity on Friday night after an underground fault caused a power cut in a large part of the town.

Initially 2,500 properties in the Toftwood area were affected when the supplies were interrupted at about 5.25pm.

Engineers restored about 1700 homes within 20 minutes but 802 were still without electricity at 6.20pm.

Between 6.50pm and 7.27pm power was restored to a further 171 customers and another 151 were back at 8.08pm.

The remaining power supplies were restored at 9.48pm.

A UK Power Networks spokesman apologised for the inconvenience and said everything possible had been done to resolve the fault quickly.
