Services from the Upwell Village Post Office will be moved to the G & B Superstore in Town Street.

Many residents are strongly opposed to the change, with more than 100 people attending an open meeting in the village hall with MP Elizabeth Truss, local councillors and Post Office representatives.

It is said the move will allow for:-

- More modern branch in an open plan space

- An extra 70 hours opening per week, including weekends

- The vast majority of services to remain

Will Russell, Regional Network Manager for the Post Office said: 'We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in Upwell and we are confident this new modern branch will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.

'The modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and makes a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.'

A six-week consultation was launched earlier this year allowed residents to voice their opinions on the move. Many were concerned about parking at the proposed location, space inside the new premises and the services available following the change.

The Post Office responded by explaining roadside parking is available directly outside the premises and further along Town Street; access to the new branch will be level and via a wide door; and the new branch will meet all the required specifications.

A date for the move has not yet been set.
