It was at the heart of the Harleston community for 30 years, but now the bulldozers could be about to move in on the former Apollo Club.

Plans have been submitted to South Norfolk Council for the demolition of the former bar, snooker hall and function venue at Mendham Lane in the south Norfolk town.

The Apollo, which hosted hundreds of christening celebrations, wedding receptions, wakes and parties, as well as some of the world's top darts and snooker players for tournaments, closed on New Year's Eve 2016, after Anne Jary, who owned the business with her husband, David, said it was no longer feasible to keep the club open.

The building's contents were sold off last summer marking the end of an era in entertainment.

In an application submitted to South Norfolk Council, FSB Developments state: 'The building is no longer needed as vacant and demolition is needed to prevent vandalism.'
