THE challenge has been set to try and break the record set by the Great Yarmouth Royal British legion's poppy appeal last year.

Fundraisers collected 33,174 in Yarmouth and Gorleston in aid of past and present armed forces personnel during last year's appeal in the run up to Armistice Day on November 11.

This year, the appeal's organisers, including Yarmouth branch chairman Paul Williams hope to surpass this total.

Brightly-coloured in the Union Jack, the Legion's poppy appeal shop opens tomorrow at 19 Victoria Arcade, Yarmouth for generous donors to buy their poppies.

The shop will be open from 9am to 4pm weekday mornings and 9am to midday on Saturdays, except for the Saturdays, November 6 and 13 when the opening hours will be 9am to 4pm.
