Work on new £588,000 community sports pavilion in Long Stratton is set to start replacing a demolished old timber building that had been home to sports clubs since 1969.
Construction is due to start next month on the new building that will include changing rooms, toilets, a kitchen offering refreshments during sporting events and a club room suitable for community events.
The previous timber pavilion on Manor Road had become run down and was demolished last August.
Outline the case for a new building council clerk Becky Buck said: 'The current site, over the years, due to dilapidation has become unusable and is not fit for purpose. As a result it has become prone to vandalism and anti social behaviour, which in turn causes parishioner disgruntlement and additional cost to the public purse.'
The new pavilion is being partly funded by the Football Foundation and South Norfolk Council with the remaining sum borrowed on an interest only basis to be repaid from Community Infrastructure Levy received as a result of the 1,800 new homes being built in the village.
