Signs appeared this week on the toilets at Thetford bus and coach interchange, which say they are out of use due to ‘unforeseen circumstances’.

A Norfolk County Council spokesman said the toilets are closed because the locks have been vandalised and broken, and should be back in service next week when the locks are fixed.

Many residents have taken to social media to express their anger at the closure.

Maggie Mathers said on the public Facebook group Thetford Forum: “People need to get together and make a stand to make a point. My friend is disabled and struggles with the fact these toilet are being closed. Thetford needs to stay functional. Even toilets are important.”

The £3.88 million interchange, on St Nicholas Street, opened in 2015 and was funded by Moving Thetford Forward, a group backed by Breckland Council.
