Tens of thousands of homes in Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire will get a share of around £3m of cold weather payments triggered by the Beast from the East.
After the Arctic storm brought snow and freezing temperatures to the UK at the end of February and start of March, eligible households will get cold weather payments of £25 payment.
The Met Office measures UK temperatures at 94 weather stations throughout the UK, and provides this data to the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), who say eligible households will be paid within 14 working days of a cold snap.
The DWP makes the payments to vulnerable people if the temperature is forecast to go below zero for seven consecutive nights.
The weather stations which cover this region are at Tibenham, Wattisham and Marham, where the criteria for payments was met between Friday, February 23 until Sunday, March 1.
Tibenham covers 46,000 households in Norwich and parts of Norfolk, which will mean a total of £1.1m will be paid to eligible people.
In the area covered by Wattisham, which includes the Breckland area of Norfolk and parts of Suffolk such as Waveney, 52,000 households will get payments, totalling £1.3m.
And the area covered by Marham, such as in and around King's Lynn and homes in Fenland District Council's patch, 24,000 households will receive £25 payments - £600,000 in total.
This is the first time this winter that the cold weather payments have been triggered in this region.
The government expects to pay out a total of £50m to around two million households nationally following the extreme cold snap, the largest weekly sum for five years.
People who may be eligible for cold weather payments are those who get pension credit, income support, income-based jobseeker's allowance, income-related employment and support allowance or universal credit.
People do not need to claim. After each period of cold weather eligible people should get a payment within two weeks, which is paid into the same bank account as their benefit payments.
Cold weather payments are not the same as winter fuel payments - which is a sum between £100 and £300 which eligible people get towards their heating bills.
