A disconnected red telephone box could be relocated to Diss Mere and used to house a life-saving defibrillator.
Diss Town Council is exploring the option of adopting the empty heritage phone box on the Market Place and moving it to the Mere Mouth.
Council leader Simon Olander told a meeting of the council that they were currently looking into options for a defibrillator that could be stored in the telephone box.
Diss Business Forum is currently raising funds to purchase a new defibrillator for a location that will reduce the distance between existing machines.
BT is currently consulting on the future of the existing payphone kiosk near to the former Tourist Information Centre on Mere Street as part of a programme to remove little used phone boxes.
It is one of 18 phone boxes across South Norfolk rarely if ever used for their intended purpose that it proposes to remove.
As part of the closure programme town and parish councils have been given the option of adopting defunct red boxes for alternative community uses.
