A controversial lap dancing club has applied for a licence to operate in Norwich.

The new bar, on Prince of Wales Road, was granted permission by Norwich City Council last year to open as a lap dancing venue despite objections from local councillors.

Pure Gold Limited, which is planning to operate in the premises currently occupied by Bar 52, has now applied to the council for a premises licence to serve alcohol and play music, amongst other things.

The application states: 'The premises had been operating as a late night bar at the heart of the designated entertainment zone in Norwich City Centre. The venue is nearing completion having been fitted as a lap dancing club occupying ground floor and the basement.'

The bar wants to offer 'lap dancing and pole dancing performances involving nudity and semi-nudity (also described as 'exotic dancing')' from 8pm to 4am every day of the week.

The application also states there will be 'House Rules comprising a Code of Conduct for Performers and a Code of Conduct for Customers' in accordance with the venue's SEV (sexual entertainment venues) licence.

Members of the public have until March 23 to comment on the application.

A website for Pure Gold Bar & Gentlemen's Club is already live and states the venue is 'opening soon'.
