Norwich City has hinted that more stars of the music world could soon be heading to Carrow Road, after a licensing bid was submitted.

The club is looking to tweak the terms of its premises licence to allow it to install bars and marquees on its car park on special occasions - namely concerts.

In the application to Norwich City Council the club says it is aiming to hold gigs outside of the football season in the coming years.

It says: 'The current footprint of our licence is very restrictive when we hold a concert.

'We are looking to host concerts every year during the summer months and being able to place bars and marquees onto our car park and local street would be very beneficial to us when planning events months in advance.'

With the application submitted to Norwich City Council's licensing team, it looks as though news of more live music at the club could be on the horizon.

Ben Kensell, the club's commercial director, said: 'The concert world is getting more and more competitive, so we have to ensure Carrow Road isn't just a football stadium, but a multi-purpose venue.

'We need to build more of a footprint around our stadium and if we want eateries and bars outside the ground, we need to get the relevant licences.'

While resurfacing of the playing turf at Carrow Road meant no concerts were able to be held in 2018, in 2017 pop superstars Take That performed two nights at the stadium.

In recent years the ground has also played host to high profile performers including Elton John, Rod Stewart and George Michael.

The return of live music at the home of the Canaries will be a welcome one, with gigs at the venue becoming more frequent in the last few years.

However, before Elton John performed at the club in 2005, it had been almost a decade since the stadium was last used for live music.

The last gig before then was in August 1997, when Status Quo headlined the stadium.Previous Carrow Road gigs
