North Norfolk candidate Norman Lamb said he took guidance from the national party about doing 'low key' canvassing during the national suspension following the Manchester bombing.
The Liberal Democrat hopeful and some campaigners knocked on doors and handed out leaflets in North Walsham on Wednesday.
'We had a hustings cancelled for that day and I believe that was the right decision,' he said. 'Having a heated debate would not have been appropriate. But, with the guidance of the national party, we felt some, very low-key campaigning was OK.
'We found that people were very welcoming and enjoyed taking the opportunity to talk about the issues. I am certainly not aware of there being any confrontations.
'It is important, after the reflection, that we get back to campaigning.'
But one woman, who asked not to be named, whose door was knocked in Grange Court said she was shocked to see canvassing.
