A Norfolk MP has written to the head of Sainsbury's, asking for a 'vital' cashback service to be reinstated in a North Walsham store.
North Norfolk MP Norman Lamb wrote to Mike Coupe, on Tuesday, February 12 after frustration from residents, who said they relied on the service to pay for shopping.
Mr Lamb said: 'I am calling on Sainsbury's to recognise that many of my constituents depended on this vital service.
'The most sensible way forward is for Sainsbury's to once again allow for cashback in their North Walsham store.
'It is important that Sainsbury's recognise that as a consequence of recent closures of Barclays, Natwest and HSBC branches in the local area, many, particularly elderly residents, relied heavily on the cashback service in their store.
'Without it, local people will struggle to continue supporting local businesses, some of which still get paid predominantly in cash. This could have knock on effects for the local economy – which is deeply concerning.
'I am hopeful that a quick resolution to this problem will be found.'
