A vision for nine new houses on a site next to Chapel Road Primary School in Attleborough has been unveiled.

Breckland Bridge wants to build the dwellings on the 0.57-acre site at the corner of Cyprus Road, which is currently rented by the school from Breckland Council and occasionally used as a sports field.

If Breckland Council gives the scheme the green light, the homes would be built after the school relocates to a new site in Old Buckenham, which should take place in autumn this year.

Breckland Bridge is a partnership between Breckland Council and developer The Land Group, which produced the Thetford Riverside leisure complex last year.

David Winch, director of The Land Group, said: “This is a chance for Breckland Bridge to realise the opportunity to help fulfil, in part the council’s housing needs in the district and specifically within Attleborough.

“If approved, work on the development will not commence until after the school has been relocated to ensure that there is minimum disruption over this period and additionally the scheme has been designed to preserve the imposing chestnut tree on the site.

“We are sure that this residential scheme will be a popular and attractive addition to the town landscape.

“This project will be the second residential development to be undertaken by Breckland Bridge and we have plans for further housing schemes in Breckland.”

The project includes plans for three two-bedroom terrace homes, five three-bedroom terrace homes and one detached four-bedroom home.

Designed by Hoopers Architects of Ipswich, the dwellings would be two storey.

The new homes would front onto Chapel Road, with off-road parking provided around the back off Short Road.

Breckland Council is expected to make a decision on the development by May 10.

The applicant’s design and access statement said the scheme would be “an opportunity to provide much needed housing to an established community location, contributing to the council’s target for their five-year supply.”
