A skate park in a south Norfolk village could be in line for a face lift, as its parish council bids to broaden its appeal.

Updated skating facilities, a gymnastics area and a designated area for ball sports have all been touted in a planning application for the Jubilee Hall playing field in Loddon.

The application has been submitted to South Norfolk District Council on behalf of Loddon Parish Council, with the project designed by Hertfordshire-based skate park designers Freestyle.

As well as updating the current facilities at the park, the project will also see the addition of gymnastics frames, monkey bars and various seating areas.

Anne Panella, parish council clerk wrote in the application: 'Whilst we are vastly improving the quality and safety of skate and ride in Loddon, we are also actively inviting the wider community into the space.

'This is achieved by opening up sight lines, making logical connecting paths, offering plenty of social space and generally thinking carefully about how the space will be used by everyone.

'Any hidden areas that may attract anti-social behaviour have been eliminated and the tight, claustrophobic entrance point has been widened.'

In the application's design and access statement, Freestyle said the project's design had been displayed in the village for two months and had received 'universal support'.

The statement says; 'Although well used in the past, the current skate park is now dated in design and nearing the end of its useable life span.

'Loddon Parish Council now has a unique opportunity to procure a progressive facility with the potential to reduce youth inactivity and combat social exclusion.'

The site is located between George Lane and Kittens Lane in the village, close to Hobart High School.

It is not clear at this stage how much the project is likely to cost, however, Freestyle say the parish council has secured funds to deliver it.

If planning permission is granted it is hoped work can begin on the project in the summer, which is likely to take around 12 weeks to complete.

The application was validated by the district council this week.
