It started off with a request to the parish council, asking about potentially starting a new group for the area.
And within a matter of weeks, the success of a new community litter picking group has been hailed – as they keep the village of Kessingland tidy.
A Kessingland Parish Council spokesman said: 'A few months ago a local resident asked the Parish Council if they could organise a litter picking team for the village.'
Soon, the parish council had established a village clean-up group and they provided all the safety equipment that was needed to do the job. Notices were put up around the village, calling for volunteers to come forward.
It read: 'Are you fed up with seeing litter around your village? Fed up with seeing overgrown paths and alleyways? Street signs that are so dirty they are hard to read?
'If so, would you be prepared to give up an hour or two once a week to make this village a better place to live and visit, for us and for visitors.'
With 12 people initially coming forward, weekly village clean-ups have been carried out over the past month.
The Kessingland Parish Council spokesman said: 'The village clean-up has been going four weeks and has been a good success. We now pick up litter around the village and the grass and vegetation is being cut back from footpaths.
'To date the litter pickers have collected nearly 20 bags of rubbish from around the village, the grass and weed crew have edged all the path in McLean Drive, by Marram Green, and the pathway between The Nordalls and Marram Green is nearly complete.'
With the group congregating at 10.15am at the Parish Council offices every Friday, the village clean-up takes place every Friday morning.
'Its a very friendly team and anyone is welcome to join,' the parish council spokesman added.
Running every last Saturday of the month, Burnt Hill 95 FC have been joining in with the activities – by training on the beach on Saturday morning and then litter picking on the beach.
The football team - including children and parents - joined Kessingland parish councillor David Boyle for a beach clean on September 19, with five bags of rubbish collected.
