Jeremy Corbyn branded the Conservatives the nasty party over comments made by Norfolk MP George Freeman about disability benefits.

The Labour leader put the government policy to deny benefits to disabled people on the agenda at the weekly Prime Minister's Question time in the House of Commons.

Mr Corbyn seized on Mid-Norfolk MP George Freeman's suggestion that people suffering anxiety were not 'really disabled', claiming this was proof the Tory party has not changed. Mr Freeman took to social media on Monday to apologise if his comments had caused offence.

Mrs May told MPs that Mr Freeman had 'rightly apologised for the comments he made', and urged members of the House of Commons to accept his apology. The exchanges came in response to proposals for personal independence payment (PIP).

A tribunal said PIP claimants with psychological problems who cannot travel without help must be treated like those who are blind, and those who need support to take medication should be assessed the same way as those managing therapies like dialysis at home.

The Government has been accused of using the legal rulings to strip benefits entitlements from more than 160,000 disabled people.
