A petition calling for a slip road in Eaton to remain open during planned roadworks will be handed to the council next month.

Work on a shared cycle path along Eaton Street, between Eaton and Cringleford on the edge of Norwich, is due to begin this summer.

But in order for the work to go ahead, the slip road into the village, off Newmarket Road, will have to close for five weeks from July 25.

The Eaton Village Residents’ Association has warned of traffic chaos should it go ahead.

It has now launched a petition asking for the work to be cancelled, or if not, for the slip road to remain open.

The work will see the cycle path widened from 1.5m to 3m to cater for two-way cycling.

Norfolk County Council said comprehensive information on the closures will be provided closer to the time.
